February 3rd, 2010

For Scott Overholser DDS, learning is a lifelong process. He does not stop from learning new things even though he is already a highly successful dentist with thirteen years of experience in the dental profession. The Dental Salon associate dentist devotes hundreds of hours of continuing education each year to the improvement of his craft by keeping abreast of the state-of-the-art technology. He further enhances his expertise in his profession through membership in the following trade-specific associations: the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society and the Chicago Dental Society.

Scott Overholser DDS is much sought-after by patients for the above reasons and then some.  Seeing to it that his procedures are as painless as possible and that his patients have a pleasant experience are his main concerns. His coworkers and his patients laud him as courteous, professional, patient and thorough. As far as the dental profession is concerned, he has indeed carved his niche.

But resting on his laurels is not for Scott Overholser DDS. He is also a skilled manager who developed his skills in managing people and organizations firsthand through owning his own private practice.  Becoming a management consultant with specialization in managing private dental clinics was inevitable because Scott Overholser DDS is a quick study.

Dr Scott Overholser DDS on periodontal disease and gum issues

August 13th, 2009

As a dentist, Dr Scott Overholser DDS sees many new patients that have not seen a dentist in many years.  Most of these patients, without a regular professional cleaning, have developed moderate to severe gum disease.  This means that tartar build-up has slowly attached to the root surfaces under the gums and has caused the gums to essentially “pull away” from the teeth and bone.  At the same time this is taking place, the bone is slowly resorbing, or shrinking away.  Eventually the teeth and gums begin to absess due to infection while at the same time becoming loose.

Typically, gum disease is a chronic and slow-progressing problem.  However, at times, it can develop and advance quickly.  It is often considered a silent and pain-free issue that many patients may not even be aware they have until it’s advanced and too late.  In the early stages, dentists like Dr Scott Overholser DDS can do a “deep cleaning” under anesthesia to remove the build-up from the root surfaces and facilitate healing.  In more advanced cases, gum surgery may be necessary.
